I’ve set a goal to read 50 books this year. I’m using Goodreads to track my progress. So far, just a few days into the new year, I’ve completed two books. Yay me! To reach my goal, I’ve set a few rules about what counts as reading. Here are my rules…

I recently celebrated one year without drinking alcohol. Yup. An entire year. I had decided in January 2023 that it would be a Dry January. Turns out, I got to the entire of January and I kept going. It’s now been an entire year. Here are some things I’ve learned.

Let’s say you’re a flight attendant on Spirit Airlines. You’re boarding passengers on your five-hour cross country flight. You had stowed your own personal gear in the overhead been in the first few rows. Before too many people get on, you go to check on your stuff, and you discover something disconcerting: Someone stole your iPad.

So I lay in bed on a Friday night, the day before flying home to Los Angeles. I was feeling flushed, and slight rundown. One thought rang through my head: do I have COVID? And if so, will that impact my plans to fly?

On my recent trip to New York, I walked every morning to a local coffee place to do my morning journaling. I loved this walk. But when I returned home, and I didn’t have to walk, what would I do?

When you’re in New York, you tend to walk a lot. You walk to the store, to the subway, to the bus stop, to get a bagel, to have a drink. You just walk. As someone from California, where we own A LOT of cars, this can come as a surprise. “You walk? Like you walk … places?”

I was driving around this evening, on this next to last evening of 2023, and I saw many Christmas decorations still up. Lots of festive holiday cheer. I’m going to miss it when it all gets turned off and taken down in the next week. Why will I miss it?
